We're off to Madrid for the Davis Cup Finals!

Australia qualified for the Finals by beating Bosnia & Herzegovina in the qualifying round in Adelaide back in February and so the Australian Davis Cup team are headed to Madrid for the new week-long, 18-team Davis Cup finals from November 18-24.  

Speaking after our last tie in Adelaide, Australia captain Lleyton Hewitt said: “The end of the year is a tough time for a lot of guys because they get worn out.

“It’s about managing guys’ bodies but also mentally being ready to play an event for your country at the end of the year and trying to peak for that.

“That’s probably something for me and the support staff more to deal with and come up with ideas to try and get the guys motivated as much as possible to go out there and perform to their best.”

Australia has a 2-3 record against Belgium, having lost the the last three ties including the 2017 semifinal, and they will face Colombia for the first time.

Davis Cup Finals 2019 Format

There are 18 countries, each divided into 6 groups

• Australia is in Group D with Belgium and Colombia

• Australia will play 3 best of 3-set matches against both Belgium & Colombia on Tuesday 19th & Wednesday 20th November, which consists of two singles matches and one doubles match

• The winner of Group D will advance to the Quarterfinals of the competition on Thursday 21st November

• If Australia win their respective Group (D), in the Quarterfinals they will play 3 best of 3 set matches against the winner of Group F which will either be the USA, Italy or Canada.

• The Semi-finals will be played on Saturday 23rd & the Final will be played on Sunday 24th of November

Itinerary

DAY 1 - NOV 18 - WELCOME TO MADRID

Check-in

• After you checkin in to your hotel, the day is yours to explore the best that Madrid has to offer!

Dinner

• We’ll all meet down in the lobby at 7pm, hand out your packages and then head out for dinner as a group to one of Madrid’s local establishments. This is a great opportunity for everyone to meet and get to know one another.

DAY 2 - NOV 19 - COLOMBIA

Lunch

• Around midday we’ll meet in the lobby and head out for lunch as a group

• Around 4pm we’ll make our way to the venue for the first of 3 matches

• The first match gets underway at 6pm

Dinner

• Dinner out in the city followed by a night out on the town with your fellow supporters!

DAY 3 - NOV 20 - BELGIUM

Lunch

• Around midday we’ll meet in the lobby and head out for lunch as a group

• Around 4pm we’ll make our way to the venue for the first of 3 matches

• The first match gets underway at 6pm

Dinner

• Dinner out in the city with your fellow supporters!

Bar crawl

• After dinner we’ll be hosting a bar crawl for all our supporters!

DAY 4 - NOV 21 - QUARTERFINALS

Fingers crossed that we’ve made it this far! If Australia wins their group they’ll either play USA, Italy or Canada in the Quarterfinal

Lunch

• Around midday we’ll meet in the lobby and head out for lunch as a group

• Around 4pm we’ll make our way to the venue for the first of 3 matches

• The first match gets underway at 6pm

Dinner

• Dinner out in the city with your fellow supporters!

DAY 5 - NOV 22 - DAY OFF

Its your day to explore Madrid as there are no potential matches for the Australian team today.

Dinner followed by drinks in the city

• It’s Friday night! So, to make the most of it we’ll be bar hopping around the city to show you as much as this city has to offer!

DAY 6 - NOV 23 - SEMI-FINALS

DAY 7 - NOV 24 - FINALS

DAY 8 - NOV 25 - SO LONG FOR NOW

It’s time to say goodbye to your fellow supporters and tour leaders and reminisce on the great times we’ve all had together over the past week!
